Tabbed is a mobile app MVP for streamlining dining, built around the idea that the future of dining is here. Conventional dining means waiting for the waiter to bring the bill, which eats into time for personal, offline communication.

Paying in a group adds friction too, since splitting a bill usually needs extra steps like third-party transfers. The app needed to remove these steps without distracting from the meal.

The app detects through geolocation when you are in a restaurant and opens a tab automatically. When you leave, it detects departure and closes the tab, or lets you close it manually, and group payments happen in the same flow.

I worked as a designer alongside a second designer on the full application design. We treated it as a one-action app, prioritizing efficient interactions over breadth of features.

We researched scarce and tangential references, sorted features, set up the information architecture and built a cohesive visual system, with extra emphasis on onboarding and on integrating technical setups like geolocation and payment methods. I proposed large typography and a simple composition for quick information absorption.

In two months the team completed all research and design phases and launched an MVP, with a smooth handoff into development. The app fits a broader automation trend and is expected to reduce operational costs for partner restaurants while saving time for diners.
